In the seventeenth century, around 1645, João Peixoto Viegas (New Christian) founded the village of São José of Itapororocas. Thus the original settlement of the metropolis was in Morgado of Peixoto Viegas, at the headquarters of the parish of St. Joseph of Itapororocas. Even in the seventeenth century are founded the village of São Vicente, current seat of Tiquaruçu district, and the seat of the Humble district. By the 1820s, a couple of Portuguese, Domingos Barbosa de Araújo and Ana Brandoa founded a farm that later gave rise to the city.

In 1846 the headquarters of the metropolis is transferred to the Treasury that received the name of Santana Eye D'Water by and there went the road of herds, which went with the cattle should be sold in others cities. From the 1960s the city has intensified its population growth. The population of the city was 131,707 today already exceeds over 700,000 inhabitants. Feira de Santana is the main urban, political, educational, technological, economic, real estate, industrial, financial, administrative, cultural and commercial center of the interior of Bahia and a leading Northeast, influencing hundreds of municipalities in the state.
